We do not currently offer user accounts. If we introduce optional accounts in the future, you agree to provide accurate information, safeguard your credentials, and maintain one account per person. You will remain responsible for all activities under your access. We may suspend or terminate access to any account created in violation of these terms or if we suspect misuse or security risk.

5. Intellectual Property

All text, illustrations, graphics, page layouts, and design elements displayed on the site are the property of MapleCat Journal Ltd. or our content licensors. The MapleCat Journal name, logo featuring a cat icon, and any distinctive branding elements are protected marks. Subject to your compliance with these terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to access and use the site for personal, non-commercial purposes. This licence does not include any right to reproduce content for distribution, to build a competing service, to train models for content generation, or to frame pages in a way that obscures origin. Where we reference third-party brands or tools, those marks belong to their respective owners and are used only for identification and explanatory purposes.

6. Prohibited Activities

You agree not to engage in any of the following: spamming or unsolicited messaging using information derived from the site; data mining or extraction that exceeds fair personal use; reverse engineering or decompiling any site component; submitting content that is unlawful, defamatory, or harmful; distributing material that promotes violence or discrimination; attempting unauthorized access to servers or databases; interfering with security features; or using the site to promote restricted categories, including but not limited to adult content, controlled substances, or unlicensed gambling. We may investigate any potential violation and cooperate with law enforcement when required by law.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The site and all content are provided on an as-is and as-available basis. Tips and examples are general in nature and may not align with your household, your cat’s temperament, or your local conditions. You are responsible for verifying information that matters to safety or legal compliance and for obtaining professional advice when needed. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation or that the site will be free from viruses or other harmful components. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so some exclusions may not apply to you.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MapleCat Journal Ltd., its directors, employees, and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or use, arising from or related to your use of the site or reliance on any content. Our total cumulative liability for direct damages will not exceed the greater of one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD 100) or the amount you paid to MapleCat Journal Ltd. in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, whichever is lower. These limitations apply even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages and regardless of the form of action, whether in contract, tort, negligence, strict liability, or otherwise.

9. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless MapleCat Journal Ltd. and our officers, employees, and contributors from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable legal and accounting fees, arising out of or in any way connected with your violation of these terms, your misuse of the site, your infringement of intellectual property or other rights, or any content you share, submit, or transmit in connection with the site.

10. Third-Party Links and Resources

Our articles may reference third-party resources to explain concepts or give practical context, such as examples of cat carriers, enrichment ideas, or travel checklists. These links are provided for convenience and do not imply endorsement, control, or responsibility for third-party content, policies, or practices. You access third-party websites at your own risk and should review their terms and privacy practices.

11. Privacy

Your use of the site is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect, how we use cookies and analytics, how advertising measurement works, and your choices. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these terms by reference. Please review it at /privacy-policy/ before using the site.

12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in Ontario, without regard to conflict of law principles. You agree to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the provincial and federal courts located in Toronto, Ontario for any dispute arising from these terms or the site, subject to the dispute resolution process below.

13. Dispute Resolution

Before filing a claim, both parties agree to attempt to resolve any dispute informally. You must send a written notice describing the issue to the address below. We will attempt to respond within 30 days. If the matter cannot be resolved informally within 30 days after receipt, either party may bring a claim in the courts specified in the governing law section. Nothing in this section prevents either party from seeking interim or injunctive relief when a delay would cause irreparable harm.

14. Termination or Suspension

We may suspend or restrict access to the site, or to specific features, with or without notice if we believe you have violated these terms, created risk or legal exposure for us or others, or if necessary for maintenance, security, or operational reasons. Upon termination, your right to use the site will stop immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination remain in effect, including intellectual property, warranty disclaimers, limitations of liability, indemnification, and governing law and dispute resolution clauses.

15. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may update the site, add or remove features, or modify these terms from time to time. Material changes to these terms will take effect 14 days after posting the updated version on this page. Your continued use of the site after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised terms. If you do not agree to changes, you should stop using the site before they become effective. We encourage you to review this page periodically to stay informed about current terms.

16. Accessibility and Contact
